Early Help

At Wombridge Primary School, we understand that family life can sometimes be difficult and challenging. From time to time there may be situations where you feel you need more help and support. At these times we are able to offer you what is known as the Early Help Offer.

Providing early help to our children and families, means we can be more effective in preventing problems, from affecting children’s ability to thrive and learn. Early help means providing support as soon as a concern emerges, at any point of a child’s life, from Reception through to Year 6.

Early Help is about providing the…..

The role of school

Step 1: The class teacher is the first point of contact for any concerns. Teachers can offer advice where possible and monitor your child if necessary. If further support is identified and required, you will be referred to a member of the Safeguarding, Pastoral or SEND Team.

Step 2a: If further support is required from an external agencies, a meeting or telephone will be arranged to discuss level of need and suggested referrals with a view to gathering evidence to support these. External agencies may include – Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language, LSAT (Learning Support Advisory Team), BSAT (Behavioural Support Advisory Team), Occupational Therapy.

Step 2b: Focused pastoral support for SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health) needs can be accessed following discussion with the Safeguarding and Pastoral Team. This can involve routine well-being check in’s with a child or more regular sessions to support identified needs. Such interventions can include, ELSA (emotional literacy support assistant) to help with children’s emotional development and cope with life’s challenges.
